Re: Exam Scores

Dear CSCI-316 Students,

I have graded your exams. Instructions for finding out your score are given below, as are dates and times when students are welcome to come to my office to see their graded exams.

Attendance and Performance

I urge students who have been absent many times in recent weeks to attend class much more regularly. Looking at the attendance sheets, I see the following:

Finding Your Score

You can find out your exam score now by doing the following:

  1. Log on to your xxxxx_yyyy316 mars account. (Students who cannot log on to mars will need to see me in my office to find out their exam scores—see the last two paragraphs of this email for more information.)
  2. At the xxxxx_yyyy316@mars:~$ prompt, enter: ckexamscore. If mars responds with the error message ckexamscore: command not found, then enter the following instead: /home/faculty/ykong/316bin/ckexamscore
  3. At the [1]> prompt, enter (exam1-score <your CUNYfirst ID>) WITH the parentheses but WITHOUT the angle brackets.

If you mistype your CUNYfirst ID at step 3, then ERROR will be displayed. Otherwise, your Exam 1 score should be displayed after step 3.

Example: If your CUNYfirst ID is 21732771, then enter (exam1-score 21732771) at step 3, INCLUDING the parentheses.

Note for Low Scores

Note to those scoring < 70% (< 17.5 out of 25): The “25/40” rule you may remember being asked to read in August (see the red words in the 2nd paragraph of the Grading Policy section on p. 2 of the 1st-day announcements document) still allows you to get a good grade (even A or A+) if you do well on Exam 2 and the final exam.

As the final exam will be cumulative, if you scored < 70% on Exam 1 then I recommend that, between now and the final, you:

Office Hours

If you wish to see your graded exam, come to my office (SB-A106) with your QC ID card between 4:50 and 5:50pm on one of the following dates:

No appointment is necessary.

If you can’t come between 4:50 and 5:50pm on one of the above five dates, you can email me to make an appointment to see your exam between 8:25pm and 9:00pm on one of the next three Wednesdays (11/26, 12/3, and 12/10).

See you in class tomorrow.
