--- Video Title: Software Metrics and Measures Description: Software Metrics and Measures Watch more Videos at https://www.tutorialspoint.com/videotutorials/index.htm Lecture By: Mr. Arnab Chakraborty, Tutorials Point India Private Limited --- Software Measures and Matrix. So, this particular software measure and matrix is nothing but one process for the quantifying and symbolizing different attributes. So, let us go into the details of this topic. So, software measures can be understood as a process of quantifying and symbolizing various attributes and aspects of a software. So, we want to measure the different features of the software. So, that is why the quantifying this word has been evolved in this definition. So, software metrics provide measures for various aspects of software process and the software product. So, software measures are fundamental requirements of software engineering. Ultimately, software is an engineering product. So, they not only help to control the software development process, but also aid to keep the quality of ultimate product excellent. So, if you can go on doing some measurements, having some matrix in different aspects of the software. So, that will also ensure that how for good quality of software we are going to develop. So, according to Tom DeMarco is one of the very famous software engineer, he has made one statement that you cannot control what you cannot measure. So, that is very interesting. You cannot control what you cannot measure. So, by saying it is very clear that how important the software measures are. So, now let us go for some software metrics, how to do this software, how to, what are the different aspects of software metrics. So, size metrics. So, first one we are considering. The lines of code that is the LOC and mostly calculated in thousands of delivered source code lines, in short it will be denoted as KLOC. So, depending upon the value of this KLOC, the software metrics can be done, the measurements can be done and this size metrics is one of the metrics of that measurement. Function point count. It is a measure of the functionality provided by the software. Function point count defines the size of functional aspect of the software. We know that each and every function point is actually implementing one of the functional requirements of the software. Complexity matrix. So, Maccab's cyclometric complexity quantifies the upper bound of the number of independent paths in a program which is perceived as complexity of the program or its modules. So, how many number of independent paths are flowing through a software? So, that will be also another metric and this metric is known as complexity matrix and that is a psychometric complexity. So, it is represented in terms of graph theory concepts by using control flow graph. So, we are having a separate video on this respective aspect. So, quality matrix. So, defects, their types and causes, consequence, intensity of severity and their implications define the quality of the software. So, in our software we are doing different kinds of risk management. So, each and every risk should be done some intensity values. So, that is why we are having the intensity of severity and that implication defines the quality of the software. Next one is the defect count. The number of defects found in the development process and number of defects reported by the client after the product is installed or delivered at the client end define the quality of the product. So, defect count is a very important and very obvious measures and metrics for this software quality. So, how many defects has been detected after getting it installed at the customer side and how many against how many defects the customer has put the feedback. So, that might be also a good metric to decide the quality of the product. Process metrics. So, in various phases of SDLC, the methods and tools used, the company standards and the performance of development are the software process metrics. So, what are the different in case of different SDLC, the methods and the tools whatever you have used. So, that might be also another metrics known as the process metrics. Next one is our resource metrics. There is a effort, time and different resources deployed on that very particular software will be a good measure for our resource metrics. So, now, in our earlier video also, we have discussed a lot on this resource management and all. You can also have a look on those videos for the better understanding. So, that is why in this particular video, we have discussed the software metrics and the respective measures. Thanks for watching this video. TutorialsPoint.com. Simply easy learning.
